Storm clouds brewing

The storm clouds were ominous to say the least as I kissed my wife and kids goodbye and headed to the fire station.  The storm had already brought destruction to our town. How could I leave my family unprotected to go help someone else I never met?  How could I justify that?  My wife asked me that question many times, never fully understanding the need to serve.  Our home had a very sturdy block wall basement; two safe rooms that were well protected; but in her mind, it wasn’t enough.  In my mind, I still worried it might not be enough.  As we approached the damaged area, the storm was still wreaking havoc – I wondered if my crew was safe enough; would any of us make it home?
