From my favorite window seat, I could tell we were making our approach over the ocean.  The cabin was a flurry of activity getting ready to land – me, I was wondering what I had gotten into.  The end of this flight would tell me soon enough.  I could see lights as far in each direction as possible – a lot more lights than I was used to seeing.  A motor whirred, “Flaps 15”, I  could hear the pilot say in my mind, as I watched the flaps extend.  “Flaps 30” – more motor noise.  “Gear down”, followed by a thump as the landing gear doors opened and dropped the gear into position.  As the runway approached, I really challenged the wisdom of what I was doing on this flight…time would tell.
